GLS donates to flood victims in South Asia
Amsterdam, 10 January 2005. General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam (GLS), has set up a European fundraising campaign to help victims of the flood disaster in South Asia. The Board of Management at GLS, a pan-European parcel, express and logistics company, called upon the company’s 12,000 employees to make donations. The amount collected will then be doubled by GLS.
The tidal wave which, according to current estimates, has claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people has also left millions of people homeless and devastated huge areas. Welfare organisations now require one crucial thing: money – for medical supplies, food, clothing and reconstruction. "The survivors need immediate and long-term help. Together with our staff, we would like to make a contribution", says Rico Back, Chief Executive Officer of General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam.
The GLS Management Board set up a bank account for donations back in December and called upon company employees across Europe to give generously. "For every Euro paid into the account by our staff, GLS will add another to it", explains Rico Back. "The feeling of dismay and readiness to help within our company is large and we expect a high level of participation." The account balance will be published regularly and the money passed on to serious aid organisations.
