GLS Naming Convention - Unified products throughout Europe!
Amsterdam, April 6, 2006. This month, GLS is launching the standardisation of its portfolio in the whole of Europe. By doing this, the company is adapting to the increasing degree of internationalisation in the European markets.
“Our customers expect a clearly structured and standardised product and service range that can include special regional features but should generally be independent of the location where the service is rendered”, says Rico Back, CEO of General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam (GLS). “This is why our objective is to have an identical national and cross-border product and service portfolio that can be extended by country-specific offers.”
A better overview
The harmonisation of the products and services is already taking place at full speed under the title “GLS Naming Convention”. Ten GLS companies have already successfully begun implementing the program since April. Other countries, among them the Netherlands and Poland, will follow suit this year. The product and service range of the GLS is now subdivided in:
• Products
• Services
• Solutions (Logistics products)
Self-explanatory portfolio
Each new name briefly describes the core benefit that the products and services provide to the customer. In combination with every product, special services can be arranged, which provide additional value.
An example: the Business-Parcel (national basic parcel product) and the Euro Business-Parcel (international basic parcel product) can be combined with the Pick&Return-Service or the Pick&Ship-Service respectively. Surcharges and rebates are listed separately in the offer and on the invoices.
Ready for Europe!
“GLS is a European company – this is expressed by the new standard product and service names, which are in English”, summarises Back. “The GLS Naming Convention ensures that we can communicate all products and services to our customers in a consistent and transparent manner – throughout Europe!”
